Air quality advisory issued for the Central Okanagan

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for the Central Okanagan.

The advisory is prompted by elevated pollution levels occurring in the area, specifically Kelowna.

Dust is the biggest issue and a ‘dust advisory’ has been issued for Kelowna due to high concentrations of coarse particulates.

That’s expected to persist until there’s a change in current weather conditions.

Persons with chronic underlying medical conditions should postpone strenuous exercise until the advisory is lifted,” says the Environment Canada alert.

“Staying indoors and in air conditioned spaces helps to reduce particulate exposure. Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes and lung or heart disease.”

A similar special air quality statement remains in place for the North Okanagan as well.
