VIDEO: Annual Hope in Her Eyes event boasts empowerment and generosity on International Women's Day

Locals flocked to the Laurel Packing House on International Women’s Day to take part in the second annual Hope in Her Eyes fundraising event.

The sophomore event is the brain child of two local organizations, H.O.P.E Outreach and Her International, brought together by the common goal of supporting and empowering marginalized woman both locally and overseas.

Fuelled by philanthropy and empowerment, the event saw attendees from all walks of life come together to help bridge the gap and break down barriers in support of the quest to alleviate homelessness, oppression and inequality.

“We want to shift perspectives to create compassion and empathy in Kelowna toward what is happening in our own backyard as well as what is happening overseas,” said Tamara McLellan, co-executive director of Her International.

Funds raised through the generosity of guests will be split evenly between the two organizations, with half going toward outreach supplies for H.O.P.E and the work they do with homeless women in Kelowna, and the other half to Her’s various programs in Nepal.

From opening the evening with a powerful performance of the “Women’s Warrior Song” courtesy of the Westbank First Nations to heartfelt speeches from both organizations and a proclamation from Mayor Basran, the event’s strong theme of empowerment was palpable.
