With the cold weather coming in it might make more sense to curl up with a good book rather than engage in outdoor activities, but some daredevils still want to get out there and exercise.
What is one of the best ways to exercise in the Fall you ask? It’s hiking of course.
The Okanagan is home to some of the greatest trails in the province and the Fall is the perfect time to test them out. Shown below are some of the best trails to hike near Kelowna.
Easy - Angel Springs:
Located southeast of Kelowna, Angel Springs is a hike we can all get behind. This beginner trail features interesting geological features and features an all-natural spring at the end.
The hike is approximately 4 kilometres long and is covered in grass, flowers, dirt, and wildlife.
Angel Springs is possibly its best in the summer months, but it is picturesque year round. Directions to the trail can be found here.
Medium - Mill Creek:
The Mill Creek trails differ from long to short but each one is a pretty great time.
Mill Creek leads through thick trees beside a creek and ends with a cascading waterfall that you can swim in. The terrain of the trail is flat and cold due to the excessive shade from the trees.
The area features many wildflowers, wildlife, and large boulders. The catch to Mill Creek is you must tackle it in the day as the provincial park it is located in closes at night. The location of the trail can be found here.
Hard - Fintry Falls:
If you have good cardio and a can-do attitude then Fintry Falls shouldn’t be too difficult. If you don’t have any of those features then think of attempting the first two hikes listed.
Fintry Falls is 45 minutes from Kelowna and sees hikers climb a wooden staircase through a forested canyon. The piece-de-resistance for Fintry Falls is the spectacular view of the deep pools and waterfalls located on the hike.
The trail begins just after the Fintry campground and features a variety of wildlife, including Moose, bears, lynx, coyotes, cougars and more. The location of the hike can be found here.
Sketch - Christie Falls:
If you want an exhilarating, adrenaline-pumping and beautiful hike, then look no further than Christie Falls.
Christie Falls is a fairly peculiar hike in that it has burned areas due to fires and also features a rope swing. The trail takes you through the trees and onto a cliffside. Be careful when on the cliffside as it is a long way down.
The trails only takes around 30 minutes but its steep terrain makes it all the more difficult. Directions to Christie Falls can be found here.
