Organizers of the Annual Bottega Christmas Market have decided to cancel this year's event in pursuit of a new goal.
The market, which many local crafters and artists rely on for end-of-year business has been put on hold so Bottega can focus its attention on opening a craft cidery.
"We are taking a break from the Charity Christmas Market for 2017 as we are currently busy at work with our new project," told Michael Donley, coordinator for Bottega, to NowMedia.
Donley said that Bottega's latest venture has kept staff too busy to host the 7th year of the market.
On November 15th of this year, Bottega Kelowna announced the Soma Cidery is expected to open sometime in 2018.
Last year, the 6th annual market in Southeast Kelowna hosted a space for more than 50 local vendors, and ran over several weekends throughout the Christmas season.
While many crafters and artisans garner a great deal of business from the market, the event was also a fundraiser for the Karis Support Society, a Kelowna-based home for women struggling with addictions and mental health issues.
"We know many will be disappointed by this news, but we look forward to continuing to support the Karis Support Society in other ways in the future," he said.
On top of Soma Cidery, Bottega Kelowna also boasts an alpaca farm, an apple orchard, and provides a space for special events including weddings, concerts and exhibits.
