Building permits have been issued for the Mission Group’s next apartment building project.
On Thursday, the city approved a building permit valued at $27.849 million for the project which will be going up at 3061 Abbott Street, across from the city’s newest lakefront park.
Development permits were approved for the project in June with Kelowna city councillors praising the design of the building.
The six-storey building will have 86 residential units in the upper floors and ground-floor townhouses fronting onto Abbott Street.
The unit breakdown will see 10 studios, 24 one-bedrooms, 43 two-bedrooms and 10 three-bedrooms.
There will also be four commercial units fronting onto Cedar Avenue
The building will feature 113 parking stalls (14 more than required by the city) and a large rooftop amenity space on the second floor which will include a community garden, a lounge area and outdoor kitchen.
When this project was brought forward to council this summer, councillors praised the architectural design, the amenity space and how the future commercial spaces will benefit the new park.
“I think it's a very good fit for this area and will complement the park, so I'm happy to support it,” said coun. Luke Stack.
The next steps will see Mission Group break ground and construction will begin in the near future.
