Choices Markets Kelowna eliminates plastic water bottles from store shelves

Choices Markets Kelowna has announced store plans to comply with the federal government's upcoming ban on single-use plastics.

The store has removed all 500ml single-serve plastic water bottles from store shelves and will also begin offering free water bottle refills for containers up to one litre.

Customers will also now have the option of using a cardboard box at the till instead of a plastic bag.

However, Choices Markets does still encourage customers to bring their own reusable grocery bags whenever possible.

In June, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the situation of plastic overflowing in landfills and polluting oceans and waterways has reached a breaking point and action is needed.

Items included in the ban could include drinking straws, water bottles, plastic bags, cutlery, stir sticks and fast food containers.
