The City of Kelowna has announced that it has purchased the Michaelbrook Golf Course for $8.37 million.
The 52.73 acre golf course is located at 1085 Lexington Drive, which is adjacent to the H2O Centre.
In a news release issued Friday afternoon, the city said the golf course will continue to operate as a golf course through a lease with a third-party operator.

"This strategic acquisition will ensure that Kelowna residents continue to have access to the facilities they need for physical activity, leisure and more,” said Derek Edstrom, divisional director partnership and investments.
“As our city grows, so does the demand for high-quality recreational spaces."
The city said the property already hosts a wide variety of resources besides just golf including playgrounds, washrooms, parking and irrigation.
When the city was putting together the 2040 Official Community Plan, public engagement identified the property as being desirable for future recreation to serve the surrounding neighbourhoods and overall community.
The purchase was funded by the General Parkland Acquisition Reserve, the release said.
There have been several calls from the public for the city to purchase the Kelowna Spring Golf Corse on the other side of town, however, mayor Tom Dyas said the developer who purchased the property was not interested in selling.
