The City of Kelowna is recommending council not support a proposed townhouse development on Harvey Avenue.
Located at 757 Harvey Ave, the three-storey project would accommodate eight two-bedroom townhouses with vehicle access from the rear lane.
Two units would feature a double garage, with the six other units restricted to a tandem two-stall parking format.
However, city staff is recommending council not support the rezoning application that requests a transition from RU6 - Two Dwelling Housing zone to the RM4 - Low Density Multiple Housing zone.
According to the report to council, staff envisions a larger apartment style complex similar to the Central Green or Dorchester buildings.
“Council-directed growth expectations fit the vision of creating significant density within large apartment buildings along the Harvey Ave / Highway 97 corridor because of its proximity to downtown, commercial services, employment, transit, cycling routes, parks, and schools,” writes staff in the report.
A single-family dwelling built in the 1940s currently exists on the lot.
