UPDATE: Cyclist, 69, dies after colliding with semi in Kelowna

(Update: Tuesday at 10:20 am): The cyclist hit by a semi tractor trailer in Kelowna on Monday has died.

Mounties said the 69-year-old Kelowna resident was rushed to hospital after the incident but could not be saved.

He was involved in a collision near Dilworth Drive and Harvey Avenue at about 1:40 pm.

“Efforts to save the cyclist's life were made but sadly he has succumbed to his injuries,” said Cpl Meghan Foster.

The cyclist's name – or any other information about the incident – will not be released to the public, Mounties said.

The driver of the truck has been cooperative and there have been no arrests in relation to the death.

Police added: "Officers will continue to advance the investigation by canvassing the surrounding area of the scene for video surveillance and other evidence."

(Original story: Monday at 3: 30pm): A cyclist has been rushed to hospital after a serious crash in Kelowna.

The rider was involved in a collision with a semi tractor trailer on Dilworth Drive today at about 1:38 pm.

It happened near Harvey Avenue.

Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey said he did not yet know the cyclist’s condition.

Harvey Avenue remains fully open.

The RCMP Municipal Traffic Section is at the scene now conducting an investigation.

A small portion of Dilworth Drive has been blocked to allow them to work.
