UPDATE: Kelowna RCMP arrest Scotiabank robbery suspect

(UPDATE: April 24 @ 12:35 p.m.) - The Kelowna RCMP already have a man in custody following Monday's bank robbery at the downtown Scotiabank.

“After reviewing the banks video surveillance footage captured of the robbery, investigators were able to positively identified their suspect as a 31-year-old Kelowna man,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

The suspect was caught when officers were called to the report of a disturbance in the 600 block of Lequime Road at 1:10 a.m.

“Our general duty officers arrived on scene and immediately recognized the subject of that complaint as their robbery suspect, who was taken into police custody without incident,” explained O'Donaghey.

(Original story: April 23 @ 3:40 p.m.) - Police continue to investigate after the Scotiabank in downtown Kelowna was robbed this afternoon.

Kelowna RCMP swarmed the area at 12:15 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of a robbery that had just been committed at the financial institution, in the 400 block of Bernard Avenue.

“This investigation remains in its early stages, as investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“However, police can confirm that a male suspect entered the financial institution, demanded money from a teller and fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.”

The suspect, who was caught on surveillance camera, is described as a 25-30 year old Caucasian male who is around 6’0” with a scruffy face, brown hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing a red and white jacket with a hood.
