Section of Harvey Avenue to shut down at 6 pm the next 2 nights

Upcoming work on the Bertram overpass project will result in Harvey Avenue being shut down several times this month, including twice this weekend.

According to the City of Kelowna, the stretch of Hwy 97 running through Kelowna will have five overnight closures between Water Street and Richter Street this month.

The first two will take place over the next two nights.

Here are the dates and nature of the closures, which will all be between 6 pm and 6 am:

• Saturday, Oct. 5 (full closure)
• Sunday, Oct. 6 (full closure)
• Monday, Oct. 7 (westbound lanes closed)
• Saturday, Oct. 19 (eastbound lanes closed
• Sunday, Oct. 20 (eastbound lanes closed)

When only one side of Harvey Avenue is closed, the other half of the road will be switched to alternating traffic in both directions.

For the full closures, regular traffic will need to detour using nearby side streets, while larger commercial and transport trucks will be asked to detour on Clement Avenue.

“Businesses and residents can expect increased traffic overnight on alternative routes, and those travelling should give themselves extra time,” the City said in a statement.
