UPDATE (6:25 p.m.) - Fortis BC has taken to Twitter to inform residents in the Lower Mission that they expect to have power back to homes around 7 p.m.
Crews continue to work in #Kelowna and we anticipate power will be restored at approx 7pm. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Fortis BC crews have been dealing with a fallen tree that took out power lines and caused a small fire.

About 1,600 customers in the Lower Mission area of Kelowna are without power.

According to Fortis BC representatives, a fallen tree took out a power line and caused a small fire in the Lower Mission.
FortisBC officials say the power went off around 3 p.m.
The incident has reportedly caused extensive infrastructure damage.
Fortis initially indicated power could be restored by 6 p.m., however, after further examination of the damage, that restoration time is now to be determined.
To bring everybody back online once the problem is fixed, another 1,500 customers will have to be taken offline.
