UPDATE: Fire visible on Okanagan Mountain, the Kelowna Fire Department asks that you not call 911 to report it

(UPDATE: 5:35 p.m.)

In a press release from the Kelowna Fire Department, they are asking that people not call 911 to report the controlled burns taking place in the mountains around the Okanagan Valley.

B.C. Forestry and other agencies have many permitted burns occurring on the mountains around the Okanagan Valley. These are controlled burns and they may be very visible from the valley bottoms.

Original story - Fire visible on Okanagan Mountain (5:00 p.m.)

We have received calls into the newsroom regarding a visible fire burning on Okanagan Mountain. We have contacted BC Wildfire and they are aware of the fire.

They could not tell us if it was registered burn, just that they were aware of the fire.
