Fundraiser set up to help with costs of Chelsea Cardno’s celebration of life

On Friday, the search for Chelsea Cardno came to a tragic end after 10 days.

Her body was found on a flooded farm off Mission Creek, several kilometres downstream from where the search for her began on Tuesday, June 14. Her dog JJ has not been found.

While it was not the ending that anyone had hoped for, the discovery of the 31-year-old gives her loved ones a chance at closure and that begins with a celebration of life.

A GoFundMe has been set up to aid with the costs behind the unexpected memorial, specifically to help friends and family who live outside of Canada to travel and attend it.

“Chelsea was known for her infectious laugh and a smile that lit up the room! She was outgoing, loving, caring and simply a joy to be around,” explained the GoFundMe, which was set up by Cardno’s cousin Tanya Rudolph.

“She didn't give a second thought to offering help to others and will be missed dearly by those she has left behind.”

So far, the fundraiser has collected just over $5,000 towards a $15,000 goal.

If there are funds leftover after the celebration of life, they will be donated to a pair of important causes.

The first would be Central Okanagan Search and Rescue as a thank you for the tremendous support they provided in the search for Cardno.

The other is the BC SPCA, the GoFundMe noted, because “nothing meant more” to Cardno than animals.
