Gold Medal Pints has been added to the Canadian Culinary Championships being held Feb. 2-3 in Kelowna.
This inaugural beer competition will showcase the top five Canadian lagers and ales as selected by Stephen Beaumont, international beer authority and GMP national beer advisor.
The beer will be judged live by The Beer Guy, co-author of The World Atlas of Beer, during the first day of the championships.
The five finalists among the 47 beers tasted from throughout the country are:
Breweries were asked to pour a beer at their local Gold Medal Plates event that was then entered into a nation-wide competition to determine the gold, silver, and bronze medal beers from Canada.
A total of five beers were poured in the designated Gold Medal Pints area of each city’s Gold Medal Plates event.
The top 47 Canadian beers were entered into a single, nation-wide beer competition to be examined by a panel of judges led by Beaumont, who narrowed down the final list to five beers.
The winners of the gold, silver, and bronze prizes will be announced at the Mystery Wine Pairing Event.
“We are very excited about this flavourful addition to Gold Medal Plates and look forward to it evolving into a true, Canada-wide beer competition in the coming years,” said Beaumont, also the national beer advisor at the Canadian championships.
