UPDATE: Hwy 33 reopens after fatal collision

(UPDATE: July 23 at 6:30 am): The highway has now reopened, according to DriveBC.

(UPDATE: July 23 at 5:38 am): The road remains closed this morning.

DriveBC said an assessment is in progress.

(Original story: July 22 at 6:43 pm): DriveBC is reporting that a vehicle incident has Highway 33 closed in both directions.

The Kelowna RCMP say the collision happened at about 5:30 pm between Goudie Road and Goshawk Road.

Tragically, the collision resulted in one death.

“The highway will be closed for several hours as RCMP officers and analysts are on scene gathering evidence in an attempt to determine the cause of this tragic event,” a news release said.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or has dash camera video is asked to phone the RCMP and reference police file number 2024-39634.

An assessment is in progress and a local detour is available on Goudie Rd through to Cardinal Creek Rd.

The next update from DriveBC is expected at 8 pm on Monday.
