January 2021 wrap-up: A very dry and mild start to the year

Our average was 2.9ºC for daytime highs in January 2021, close to two degrees warmer than seasonal conditions of 0.8ºC.

Overnight lows had a similar trend, with last month’s average at -2.8ºC, compared to seasonal lows of -5.8ºC.

All monthly statistics in this article are based on data from the weather station at UBCO, and the seasonal statistics in this article are based on the Canadian climate normals 1981-2010 data.

As we look into the first few days of February, we will see an above seasonal start to the month with daytime highs at least several degrees above zero.

However, a northwesterly flow midweek will usher in cooler air and bring afternoon temps back down to near freezing by Thursday.
