Crews from the Kelowna Fire Department had their hands full with a townhouse fire on Thursday night.
The 911 call came in around 6:20 pm, reporting black smoke coming from a bedroom in a townhouse located in the 200 block of Briarwood Road.
When the KFD arrives, they found smoke and flames coming from a second story bedroom.
“Crews managed to quickly extinguish the stubborn fire before it extended into the roof and other units,” said a release from the KFD.
“The fire crews completed overhaul and checked for any extension in all units.
The single unit suffered smoke and water damage, but the three other units were preserved thanks to the efforts of first responders.
Four occupants of the one damaged townhouse were unable to return home, however, and are being assisted by emergency support services.
Three of those four were taken to Kelowna General Hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation.
Twenty-one firefighters responded to the blaze, which is not deemed to be suspicious.
