KelownaNow launches auction for local non-profit ‘Her International’

Her International has made strides not only in the Kelowna community but around the world.

HER stands for Health, Education and Rights for her. Volunteers aim to support these rights for women and girls around the world.

“It all started when our Founder, Michelle Bonneau, went on a trip to Nepal and saw that girls were being sold to men for bonded labour,” said Tamara McLellan, co-executive director at Her International.

This is where it all began:

Twelve years ago, Michelle launched IWEN Canada (Intercultural Women’s Education Network) which was rebranded recently to Her International. This non-profit organization helps with building educational programs for all types of women near and far.

“Our mission is to empower marginalized women and girls through education and life skills, added McLellan. “Everything we do is ultimately for Her.”

KelownaNow has teamed up with local businesses who have contributed items to the auction. Proceeds from the auction will go towards educational programs for marginalized women, which help support women’s education in Nepal, and building educational programs for volunteers.

From Dec. 8 to Dec. 20, AuctionNow will be live to the public and all items are available for bidding! Visit AuctionNow for a full list of items.

Her International is governed by a volunteer board of directors in Kelowna. If you would like to donate or become a volunteer, visit Her International.
