KelownaNow's guide to the weekend (June 2-4)

June is taking off this weekend in the Okanagan with the beginning of annual Pride celebrations, lots of events in the sun and some fun-filled evenings to look forward to. As always, you’ll find there is something for everyone!

Check out our weekend guide below with a selection of our favourite events taking place.

Friday, June 2

Joe Avati’s World Tour in Kelowna

Relive or experience the 80s with Australian comic, Joe Avati, as he talks about his teenage years in a way that will have you belly-laughing along. The show is suitable for ages 12 and up. Tickets here.

Fiddle Fest 2023

Jam out with some fellow musicians or just listen to the fiddle players at this Kelowna Fiddle Festival. Held at Rutland Centennial Hall, there will be a variety of events to attend throughout Friday and Saturday.

Time: Friday 6:30pm-8:30pm, Saturday 9:00am-2:00pm

Burlesque at Blind Tiger Winery

Kick off Pride month with a burlesque show at Blind Tiger Winery. Take in the Lake Country views whilst enjoying an all-queer cast perform a variety of sensual and glamorous routines. Tickets here.

Saturday, June 3

Summer Art Launch at Grizzli Winery

Soak up some new local art at Grizzli as they launch their new gallery ‘Everything Under the Sun’. Grab a wine tasting, meet and greet with the artists and attend a silent auction. More info here.

Okanagan Spring Wine Garden Party

Sample wines from all over the Okanagan at this event at the Cove Lakeside Resort. New reds, whites and rosés will be available as well as live music and a selection of charcuterie boards, antipasti and a risotto station. More info here.

Indigenous Beading Circle

Craft your own jewellery out of beautiful beading through techniques and knowledge imparted from those taking part in the monthly group. Both indigenous and non-indigenous peoples are welcome to the circle. Book tickets here.

Museum Impossible: Operation Spy Academy

Channel your inner James Bond and try to break a secret code within one hour! The challenge is available for groups of 6-8 people and will be running from 3rd June through to August at the Okanagan Military Museum. Book tickets here.

Rustic at Dusk

Attend this weekly event at Rustic Reel that slashes prices of selected beers to $6 and pretzels to $3 once the evening sets in! Enjoy the patio and beer garden whilst taking in the last sunshine of the day.

Kelowna Strongman

Watch as sixty of Kelowna and the Okanagan’s strongest men and women compete for the titles in these series of competitions. Athletes will lift cars, overhead press logs and carry hundreds of pounds of sand to prove their strength. More info here.

Sunday, June 4

Kelowna 50+ Pride Picnic in the Park

Celebrate Pride with a free picnic in Sutherland park to connect with older members and allies of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Bring your own lunch and a blanket or chair to sit on. Dress in your favourite rainbow attire and enjoy some complimentary desserts and beverages! More info here.

‘Run Through the Vines’ Family Fun Run

Make your way through the Upper Bench Wineries in West Kelowna as you take part in this fun run to support PLAN Okanagan. Wine tastings will be on offer for adults and children will be able to take part in various games throughout the day! Prizes will also be awarded. More info here.

Bonus! Monday, June 5

With Pride week in Kelowna running from June 2nd-June 11th, we couldn’t not include the launch party taking place at BNA just following this weekend! An all ages gathering will be taking place where people can listen to guest speakers, learn about the events taking place that week and try a special Pride beer: True Colours!

Time: 5:00pm-7:00pm
Price: Free to attend
