Kelowna Women’s Shelter thanks community for support after thrift store break in

The Kelowna Women’s Shelter thrift store is reopen after a recent break in.

The Kelowna RCMP said that they received the report on March 18, just after 9:30 a.m.

Police attended the scene and believe that entry was gained through the front door of the business which sustained a damaged lock.

Once inside, the suspect or suspects took time to remove a safe and rifle through both a filing cabinet and a cash register drawer.

It is believed that the suspect(s) departed the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and a variety of clothing items.

The shelter announced on Monday that they would be closed due to a break in that occurred over the weekend.

They were forced to close and were not able to accept donations until today.

The shelter offered gratitude for the support they say they received after the news broke.

“We look forward to seeing you at #6-368 Industrial Avenue, and a huge thank you to everyone who offered support following the break-in,” said the shelter. “We are so fortunate to be a part of this amazingly supportive community.”

The Kelowna RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section attended and examined the scene for physical evidence in an effort to identify a suspect. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 and cite police file #2019-14178.
