A Kelowna cannabis business wants to open up a second location at Reid’s Corner.
Earlier this month, city planning staff accepted a rezoning application for 3699 Hwy 97 N., which is just south of the intersection of Old Vernon Road, Sexsmith Road and the highway
The applicant is looking to secure the C2rcs - Vehicle Oriented Commercial Retail Cannabis Sales zone to facilitate a second Greenery Cannabis Boutique.
There is currently a location on Commerce Avenue, which opened in March 2021.
“We have established ourselves as a responsible, secure, community-based business that works to serve our city and those around us in a respectful, pleasant, and reputable manner,” the applicants said.
The application said the proposed location would serve an area of Kelowna that is lacking in options for cannabis sales and would provide easy access for customers.
The building has several units including a Subway, Okanagan Pizza, Reid’s Corner Liquor Store and a wine making supply store.
“Easy highway 97 access allows traffic to easily flow without congesting, as does the updated and redesigned Rutland Road,” the application said.
“This commercial area is NOT surrounded by parks, schools, recreation, or homes. This location complies with all city restrictions regarding distances.”
According to the application, the store would have a similar layout and square footage to the existing location on Commerce Avenue.
This application has been circulated around the city’s planning department and a report for council consideration can be expected at a future council meeting.
