City Council is being asked to support two zoning bylaw amendments that, if approved, could see two apartment buildings constructed in the center part of the city.
The first application is for 1857, 1869 and 1879 Barlee Road, which is just west of Orchard Park Mall.
An application for this proposal was submitted in June and envisions a six-storey rental building with 160 units, which would include a mix of studios, one and two-bedroom apartments.
The developer is hoping to secure the rental only subzone onto the existing UC3 – Midtown Urban Centre zone.
Staff are recommending support because the rental only subzone is consistent with the OCP and the city’s Healthy Housing Strategy. City planners also say that the project complies with future land use.
A lot consolidation and development permit application will follow if council supports this rezoning.
The second application is for 1256, 1260 and 1270 Glenmore Drive, which is across from the Kelowna Golf and Country Club.
An application submitted in July proposes a six-storey apartment building.
Given that this application only deals with land use, not many details are provided about unit count.
The project would require the property to be rezoned from the MF1 – Infill Housing zone to the MF3 – Apartment Housing zone.
“The subject properties have the Future Land Use Designation of Core Area Neighbourhood and are directly fronting a Transit Supportive Corridor on Glenmore Dr.,” the staff report says.
Staff also recommend support for this rezoning application.
City councillors will review these two applications on Monday, Oct. 7.
