Kelowna developer planning a 640-unit project in Lake Country

A Kelowna-based developer is eying a Lake Country property for a new multi-family residential development.

Plans from West Point Projects were accepted and circulated at Kelowna city hall earlier this month.

The developer is looking to rezone 9595 Bottom Wood Lake Rd. from the I2 – General Industrial to MF3 – Apartment Housing to facilitate their project.

According to the application, the site is within a five to 10 minute walking radius from retail shops, restaurants, large park spaces, cultural facilities like Creekside Theatre and H.S. Grenada Middle School, and George Elliott High School.

The developer also points to several nearby bus routes.

The site is 8.65 acres and the “masterplan” is to build six apartment buildings and up to 30 townhouses.

“The buildings are oriented around the edges, forming an internal street and pedestrian oriented plaza space with pocket parks, play areas, hardscape areas for weekend markets and generous tree and planting coverage,” the application says.

At full build out there would be about 640 residential units running from one to three bedrooms.

Shared amenity space would include a central courtyard and parking would primarily be below grade.

The plans say the project, which will feature six-storey apartments, would be constructed in four phases.

Part of the project, the townhouses, is located within the City of Kelowna and the apartments are located in the District of Lake Country.

This application can be expected to go before city council(s) in the near future.
