Young couple whose home burned down is in Toronto awaiting a lung transplant

(UPDATE: 9:00 a.m.) - The owner of the mobile home that caught fire on Tuesday night is in Toronto awaiting a lung transplant.

Kory Bradshaw has Cystic Fibrosis and has been on oxygen for 12 years, unable to work.

Bradshaw's family typically helps him with finances, but neighbours say that this extra burden is too much.

With that in mind, a GoFundMe has been set up to support Bradshaw and his significant other, Renee, at this time.

"While my neighbour and I drove up our driveway today, we watched in horror as their home burst into flames," said Beth Shey, who created the GoFundMe. "I called 911 right away, however, by the time fire trucks arrived the fire was well on its way to razing their home."

The couple has insurance, but Shey says the family is struggling financially thanks to costs like airfare to Toronto and high rent.

Shey also cited emotional costs that are mounting for the young couple.

"Please, every dollar helps," said Shey. "Don't think that because you may only be able to give $5 that this won't make a difference, it will make an enormous difference."

(Original story: 6:20 a.m.) - The Kelowna Fire Department responded to a fire in the 5000 block of Chute Lake Road on Tuesday night.

The first calls came in at 5:23 p.m., reporting a hedge and shed on fire, before a second call reported a mobile home had gone up in flames as well.

When crews arrived on scene they found the mobile home fully involved in the fire and winds were making it difficult to extinguish.

The home was significantly damaged, but some important personal effects were salvaged by firefighters.

There were no injuries in the fire and it’ll be investigated on Wednesday.

The owners have insurance, but are out of town at this time.

The Kelowna Fire Department responded with 15 personnel, three engines, one rescue vehicle, a command unit and a safety truck.
