Kelowna ski race team seizes three spots at the Canada Winter Games

Three Race Team Telemark athletes were selected for the BC Ski Team to participate in the 2023 Canada Winter Games in PEI from Feb. 18 to March 5.

Breagh Bridge, Ian Mayer and Garrett Siever were selected based on their performances at the Teck BC Cup #1 in Whistler this past weekend.

“We are proud of the strong showing of our team at Team BC’s Canada Winter Games trials,” said Chris Halldorson, Race Team Telemark head coach biathlon and Youth Programs manager.

Telemark athletes rose to the challenge and raced hard in competitive fields.

Siever won the classic sprint competition at the finish line to claim his spot, while Mayer and Bridge both fought hard in the distance skate, qualifying by a mere six seconds.

“These races were held on the same courses as the 2010 Winter Olympics and the upcoming 2023 World Junior Championships under some really grueling conditions due to wet, heavy snow and rain,” Halldorson added. “Now that the trials are complete, we can focus on preparing for the event in Brookvale, PEI.”

With 37 Team Telemark cross-country racers competing in Whistler, the team stepped up to several podium finishes, and many more athletes achieved top 10 finishes.
