Kelowna’s Candy Cane Lane returns tonight for the Christmas season

Grab a hot cocoa and bundle up, because Candy Cane Lane is back for another year.

Starting this evening, a section of the Rutland neighbourhood will transform into a Christmas light display that you can walk or drive through.

Candy Cane Lane includes nearly 70 homes along Collison Road, Gramiak Road and Mary Court, which form a giant candy cane!

And, if your family happens to be strolling through Candy Cane Lane at the right time you may get to see Santa, who will be handing out stuffed animals provided by Shaw Communications.

The unofficial cost of taking in the twinkling lights and holiday displays is to bring a non-perishable food item with you, which will be donated to the Kelowna Women’s Shelter and Freedom's Door.

This year, the students at Spring Valley Elementary were tasked with painting the donation bin, which will be completed on Friday.

Damjan Madjar, who helps coordinate the festivities every year, says that he is grateful for such a great neighbourhood that devotes their time and energy to the project every Christmas.

Last year, the community managed to bring in a total of 11,000-lbs of food for people in need.

Madjar notes that Candy Cane Lane resident John Sharhon, pictured above welcoming truckloads of donations last year, is a vital part of Candy Cane Lane and often has the most lit up house.

Candy Cane Lane will run from Dec. 1, 2019 until Jan. 1, 2020, and they’ll be accepting donations until then.
