After six years, Lake House Interiors is shutting down its showroom with the owners citing wildfires and a drop in the real estate market as the cause.
Owners Ben and Sue Boschman said they are sad to be leaving the building at 1264 Ellis St. but will be moving the showroom back to the flagship store at the corner of Bernard and Ellis.
Sue said the store really took off after opening in 2018 and they received a lot of positive feedback over the years.
However, the past year has proven difficult for the company.
“There were plenty of customers and he didn’t really see a decline until the fires of 2023. That was when we saw the drop,” Sue said.
“When the province brought in the AirBnB ban we saw a decline in tourism and real estate. Those factors mean less people in the market.”
The Boschmans said they are looking forward to being in the Bernard/Ellis location so they can stay on top of the team and all furniture brands in one location.
Ben said this will give them a “tremendous advantage” with no fracturing of staff and events across two locations.
“In some ways it is an advantage to have all our offerings under one roof but our clients will miss the ambience of the brick and hardwood showroom on Ellis for sure,” Sue added.
The store owners are liquidating most of their furniture and the plan is to be completely moved out by Nov. 30.
