Those who decided to venture out of their homes on Thursday, while still practicing physical distancing of course, were met with some chilly springtime weather.
According to Environment Canada, Kelowna tied the record for the coldest April 2, recording a low of -7.8 C.
Registered at the agency’s weather station at UBC Okanagan just before sunrise at 7 am, the cold temperature ties the same record low set in 1936 and 2002 for the record.
"The average is 13C for a high and 1C for a low, so Thursday was far below average temperature-wise for early April," reported Doug Lundquist, meteorologist with Environment Canada.
"There's been a cold-weather front in the region for the past few days, fortunately, because it's April the sun has more power so we're really not feeling the full effect of the cold."
While it's been a chilly week, warmer temperatures are on the way, with Lundquist forecasting the central Okanagan to reach a highs of 15C by early next week.
