When she first got her tattoo, Julia Ouroumis’s mother wasn’t overly impressed, but now she couldn’t be more proud.
Ouroumis is featured alongside some rather famous Canadians in a new coffee table book titled The Caesar. 50 years. 50 stories. and it’s all because of her iconic tattoo.
“I saw the call for entries on Facebook and I didn’t really write too much, just gave them a one-liner,” laughed Ouroumis.
“A few months later they emailed me back telling me I had made the book. I was thrilled.”
The tattoo originally dates back to Ouroumis’s days as a server at Merlin's in Whistler where she first fell in love the with classic Canadian cocktail.
“I went home one summer and came back with a caesar tattoo and they were amazed,” explained Ouroumis.
“After that, I worked at a restaurant in downtown Toronto and I actually got the job because of the caesar tattoo and now I sell wine and spirits, so it’s all aligned nicely.”
The book features the likes of actor Dan Aykroyd, hockey player Doug Gilmour and comedian Colin Mochrie among others describing their favourite recipes and moments.
While she claims to be a rather “high maintenance” caesar lover, Ouroumis has plenty of love for the folks at Kelowna’s Central restaurant.
“They make a bomb caesar! Lot’s of horse radish and it has to be muddy.”
