If you live in Kettle Valley and you put up Christmas lights for the holidays, there’s extra incentive to put in an effort like Martha May Whovier this year.
The Kettle Valley Neighbourhood Association (KVNA) is holding the first annual Light Up contest, encouraging residents to light up their homes to win one of three categories.
Homes need to be entered or nominated by Dec. 7, using this form, in any of the categories, which are:
- White Christmas - Best classical design, traditional decorations from holidays past
- The Clark Griswold - Lights up the whole neighbourhood
- The Buddy the Elf - The display you love and spreads the most Christmas cheer
On Dec. 9 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., the event host Richard James Deacon will be joined by celebrity judge Casey Clarke for a walk through of the neighbourhood.
All are invited to join in on the walk through the “winter wonderland of holiday lights” that will also be livestreamed to the KVNA Facebook page.
“As a member of the Kettle Valley neighbourhood association advisory committee we thought creating an official seasonal event to showcase the incredible lights of our families would help connect neighbours and recognize our community as an incredible place to live,” explained Deacon.
Along with the three main categories, there’s also a bonus People’s Choice category, which will determine the best house on the block based off votes on a poll through the KVNA Facebook page.
