At 10 a.m. this morning, the non-profit organization Mamas for Mamas opened their doors to all Kelowna mothers. It was a joyous morning full of inspirational women supporting one another and their community.
Mamas for Mamas has designed a welcoming and encouraging environment for all parents with the intention of breaking the cycle of poverty.
Parents are encouraged to bring in their children while they explore the free shop and discuss their individual needs.
The facilities square footage is filled with wall to wall donations for both children and parents and includes a play area for children, an intake room for discussing every mother's unique needs, as well as a space for mothers with home-based businesses to work and meet with clients.
“It’s a dream come true to be standing here today in this space after all this work. Dreams do come true,” says Mamas for Mamas Executive Director, Shannon Christensen. “There’s mamas out there who do not have enough confidence in themselves to believe that they are worth those basic necessities when they need them. It’s magical to see the support in our community. It’s not about a handout, it’s about a hand up.”
Beyond helping mamas with basic necessities, Mamas for Mamas assists mothers with college tuition and securing jobs.
Mamas for Mamas grand opening was helped made possible by the custom interior design and styling company Sticks N Stones.
Mamas for Mamas is located at 120-1735 Dolphin Ave.
