UPDATE: Victim of Canada Day homicide identified

(UPDATE: 6:55 p.m.) - The victim of the Canada Day homicide that occurred Sunday night on the 1400 block of Water St. has been identified by RCMP as 23-year-old male, Esa Carriere.

“[The] victim has since been positively identified by police,” states RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“In order to further the ongoing homicide investigation, police are now confirming 23-year-old Esa Carriere, who recently relocated to Kelowna from Mississauga Ontario, was the victim in yesterday’s homicide.”

Police arrived on scene to Carriere on the ground with fatal stab wounds. He was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead after succumbing to his injuries.

RCMP are asking witnesses to report any information they may have about Carriere's night preceding is death or the incident, as they are attempting to develop a timeline leading to Carriere's unfortunate death.

Any videos or images taken before, during or following the event are also asked to be sent to the RCMP as they continue their ongoing investigation.

Investigators are considering the homicide an isolated event at this time.

(Original Story: 6:08 a.m.) - The Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit are continuing their investigation into the death of a male that occurred on Canada Day.

Kelowna RCMP are looking for any witnesses to come forward after a male was fatally injured during an altercation near Queensway Bus Loop on July 1st 2018. Police were called to an altercation on Queensway at approximately 10:50 pm where they located a male on the ground. The male suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Kelowna General Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

“Kelowna RCMP are looking to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of City Hall on Queensway across from O’Flannigan’s Liquor Store between 10:30 pm and 11:00 pm.” States Cst. Lesley Smith Kelowna RCMP “The identity of the male victim is still unknown and we are hoping to locate a friend or family member who will notify the RCMP should they recognize the following description”.

The homicide victim is described as being a non white male in his 30’s, approximately 5’11’’, 150 lbs with long brown hair, long facial hair and brown eyes. The male was wearing black jeans, a rope belt and black shoes with white soles. The victim also had several tattoos on his upper body, in particular a large colourful tattoo on his side.
