The search for a missing Kelowna man has ended in tragedy.
Human remains found along the Thompson River, near the Kamloops Airport, have been positively identified as Martin Thiffault, who was last seen on April 19.
They were found by a member of the general public around 4:30 p.m. on July 6, at which point the police were notified.
The investigation has been handed over to the BC Coroners Service.
“The Kamloops and Kelowna RCMP detachments have been working collaboratively with the BC Coroners Service following the discovery of the human remains,” said RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the Kelowna Regional Detachment.
“RCMP can now confirm that the deceased individual has been positively identified, by the Coroners Service, as missing person Martin Joseph Thiffault.”
Police were made aware of Martin’s disappearance on April 24 and an appeal was made to the public on May 2.
Thiffault’s next of kin has been notified of his passing.
“Our deepest sympathy goes out to Martin’s family as they mourn the loss of their loved one,” O’Donaghey added.
The Kelowna RCMP and Kamloops RCMP are both supporting the BC Coroners Service at this time.
