Missing dog on the loose in downtown Kelowna after being hit by vehicle

(Original story: Sept. 16 at 9:10 am): A desperate search is ongoing for a lost dog who is likely in need of medical attention.

According to social media posts made on Sunday morning, Rex ran away from his dog sitter at some point over the weekend.

Initially, the all-black dog with a white patch on his chest, who was wearing a blue Ruffwear harness, was last seen in the area of Leon Avenue and Richter Street.

But as public reports came in throughout Sunday, it was determined that the animal was hit by a van on Hwy 97 and fled north after that.

“We tried to follow him and catch him multiple times, but he was so fast and would not stop running,” wrote a woman who spotted him after he was hit on Sunday. “He ran towards the water across from Prospera Place and then we lost him.”

The most recent update from a post about Rex on the Lost & Found Pets (Okanagan) Facebook group said he was spotted at Tugboat Beach this morning and searchers were heading to that area.

“He is extremely skittish so it would be best to NOT approach or call out,” explains the original social media post about Rex. “If possible, just keep an eye on him and share his location.”
