New WestJet CEO amazes plane full of passengers says Kelowna woman

A local woman has come back from her trip to Las Vegas with a story to tell from her flight home.

Sally Bauman was returning from Las Vegas on Friday, flying to Calgary for the first leg before going on to Kelowna from there.

However, just before the plane was ready to take off, passengers were surprised with an intercom message from a man who introduced himself as Ed Sims, WestJet’s new CEO.

The new CEO explained that he would be flying back with them to Calgary and that if they had any questions for him he would be sitting back in 24C.

Bauman was even able to snap a couple of pics of the CEO serving the passengers and says she was thoroughly impressed with his actions.

“He even helped the flight attendant serve us all coffee and drinks!”

‘As a person who usually always flies Westjet, this experience for me was just another reason as to why I continually use Westjet over AC for any flight possible. The approachability of the executives shows that we are actually important and what our input means to them for their success,” she told NowMedia in an email.

On March 8, 2018, the previous CEO of WestJet, Gregg Saretsky, retired and the company announced that Sims would be taking over the role.

"I am honoured by the opportunity to assume the role of President and CEO, and believe strongly in WestJet's next global chapter and the growth potential ahead," said Sims. "In my time at WestJet, I've been inspired by the team's ability to care from the heart while acting like owners. WestJet has a strong challenger's spirit, and I'm thrilled to be able to lead the team onward. I thank Gregg for his leadership, and for setting the foundation for WestJet's global evolution."
