Don’t you worry Kelowna residents, Big White opens in less than a week!
Given a recent data analysis piece published by Snow Season Cental, there’s no shortage of residents just itching to get out on the hill.
The ski resort job platform used Google Search data to analyse more than 6,000 ski-related terms in an effort to find which Canadian cities are the most ski and snowboard obsessed.
And what it found was that Kelowna tops the list and it’s not particularly close.
The Central Okanagan city had a snowsports search volume of 545,652 per 100,000 people, which was a whopping 683% higher than the national average.
Burnaby was the only other city on the list with more than 300,000 per 100,000 people, coming in at 351,328.
The entire top five of the list was populated by British Columbian cities, with Vancouver, Coquitlam and Richmond rounding it out.
“This piece of analysis confirms that while Canada as a whole has a huge affinity for snowsports, the people of Kelowna are potentially the most excited for winter,” said Ed Raine, director of Snow Season Central.
Looking at the Kelowna findings, 36% of searches were for skiing, while 64% were for snowboarding, which aligns closely with the national average of 32% and 68% respectively.
