Grab the kids and head down to the library on Saturday, but not necessarily to read a book.
The Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) is holding a BBQ to raise funds for the Downtown Kelowna Library Maker Space project.
The BBQ will go from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, which is also the first day of the Summer Reading Club registration.
The library is trying to raise $1,000, but they’ll also be receiving a $15,000 grant from a Telus representative at the event.
"ORL is looking forward to building a space that is available to everyone who is passionate or interested in making, building and creating,” said Michal Utko, marketing the communications director at the ORL. “Come, bring a friend and help us reach that goal."
A hot dog, chips and drink will set you back $5, with all of that money going towards equipping the Library Maker Space.
That space will feature the latest innovative and creative technologies and equipment that most people would otherwise not be able to access.
Space will include computers with creative and drafting software, high-tech electronic gadgets like Raspberry Pi and Arduino to allow people to learn and experiment with robotics and computer coding.
There will also be state of the art machines like laser cutters, vinyl cutters, 3D scanners and 3D printers, which can make 3-dimensional solid objects from a digital file
