A 44-year-old Kelowna man has been brought into police custody after a night of mischief.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP were notified of a robbery that occurred at the Kalamalka Lake lookout in Coldstream.
When police arrived on scene they found a couple who had been carjacked at gunpoint, the victims were forced out of the vehicle by the suspect, and had to give over multiple personal items.
The suspect allegedly set fire to the vehicle he had arrived in before driving off in the stolen car.
RCMP were later notified of the stolen car seen in Rutland, and frontline officers surrounded the area. The car was spotted by officers on Glenmore Road, before the vehicle sped off.
“The suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed when an officer attempted to stop it, said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy.
"The Camaro was located, abandoned on Highpointe Drive a short time later.”
Officers began their search on foot and located the gun used in the car-jacking, and it was discovered to be an imitation handgun.
Officers were able to find and arrest the suspect a few blocks away without incident.
He is currently being held in custody to appear before a provincial court, as a full investigation into potential charges are underway.
