Orchard Park mall looking to cut size and add parking once again

Kelowna city council will consider an application from Orchard Park mall to shrink in size for a second time.

In April, the mall converted the former Sears location into smaller retail shops, cutting 38,000 square feet and adding 263 parking stalls in the process.

Orchard Park is now applying to cut another 14,600 square feet of retail space from the former Sears site and add another 126 parking stalls.

If approved, the retail space on the mall’s south wing will measure 35,400 square feet and be divided into five commercial retail units.

The application is also requesting to covert the old site of Ernie’s Place Neighbourhood Pub into a parking lot.

According to plans submitted to council in April, a large section of the old Sears location is scheduled to become a Mark’s Work Wearhouse clothing store.

There are also plans to close the Baron Road entrance along Dilworth Drive.

Sears Home store officially closed in January of 2018.
