The Kelowna RCMP had to put their rescue skills to work after a teenager found herself in a precarious spot on Dilworth Mountain Tuesday afternoon.
Police were called to the scene around 12:20 pm and learned that the 18-year-old girl had climbed a guard rail and slid down the side of the mountain above Kelowna Golf and Country Club.
Multiple officers, along with firefighters and paramedics, arrived at the scene and spotted the girl around three quarters of the way down the steep mountainside, under a tree.
Officers descended the mountainside, placed the girl in a harness and safely lowered her down the embankment without further injury.
“We are proud of the quick thinking officers who went above and beyond by climbing down the embankment, putting themselves at risk in order to rescue this young female from further harm,” noted Cst. Mike Della-Paolera.
The teen was transported to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment, but was fortunate to only suffer some scratches on her back from sliding down the mountain.
