(UPDATE: Sept. 19 @ 9:50 am) - Power is back for around 1,500 FortisBC customers near Kelowna General Hospital.
The outage, attributed to "wildlife," began shortly before 8 am, and the initial estimate from the electricity provider had around 700 customers affected.
The number of homes and businesses in the dark ended up being around double the initial estimate, but crews have managed to restore power as of 9:40 am.
(Original story: Sept. 19 @ 8:40 am) - Nearly 700 FortisBC customers near Kelowna General Hospital are without power this morning.
It went out shortly before 8 am and FortisBC lists the cause as “wildlife.”
The outage spans north from KGH to near Cedar Avenue in the south, and west from Okanagan Lake to between Pandosy Street and Richter Street in the east.
At this time, it’s estimated that the power will be restored around 9:40 am.
