At 4:30 am, the Kelowna RCMP received a report of a man who had drowned near the downtown Kelowna marina.

Upon arrival, the RCMP, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, and the Kelowna Fire Department attempted to retrieve the body but were unsuccessful.

The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team has been called in to recover the deceased and the cause of death has not been confirmed, but police believe it is not suspicious.

“Police are asking the public to stay away from the area of the marina to allow this important work to continue,” said Sergeant Laura Pollock.

“Please keep all marine traffic 100 feet away from the marina and reduce wake in the area.”

Police have released no further details of the incident.
