UPDATE: Kelowna RCMP continue investigation into brazen daytime robbery

(UPDATE: June 19 @ 12:30 p.m.) - The Kelowna RCMP continue to investigate Monday's armed robbery at the Garden of Eden in downtown Kelowna.

Investigators have now learned that a man inside the business was assaulted during the robbery and suffered minor injuries.

One of the two suspects discharged his gun as well, but no one was injured from that.

The two men who performed the robbery fled the scene, eastbound on Lawrence Avenue, with an undisclosed amount of money and jewellery.

“Kelowna RCMP are reviewing video surveillance from other downtown businesses and are requesting any motorists who were equipped with dashboard cameras to please review their footage in hopes to assist with this investigation,” said Cst. Lesley Smith.

“Police are also requesting any witnesses who have yet to come forward, to please contact the Kelowna RCMP.“

(Original story: June 18 @ 8 p.m.) - RCMP received a report of an armed robbery executed at the Garden of Eden located in the 300 block of Lawrence Avenue in downtown Kelowna on Monday at 4:26 p.m.

Uniformed, general-duty officers and plainclothes officers conducted a search for the armed suspects with support from the Police Dog Services section of the Kelowna Regional RCMP but were unsuccessful.

The Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) has now assumed conduct of the ongoing investigation into the armed robbery.

GIS Robbery investigators have learned that two masked men entered the business armed with firearms.

Suspects reportedly fled eastbound on Lawrence Avenue with an undisclosed amount of cash.

“Physical evidence at the scene suggests that a firearm was discharged inside the business during this brazen daytime robbery,” states RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “Remarkably, no one was reportedly injured at the scene.”

Investigators are asking business owners in the area to review their video surveillance for any footage that may be useful in the ongoing investigation.

Police are urging the public with any information regarding the incident to contact Cst. Steve McBride of the Kelowna RCMP GIS at 250-762-3300.
