RibFest 2019 raises an impressive $78K for organizations in Kelowna

The numbers are in and once again the Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise has raised an impressive sum for local organizations and programs through the fourth annual RibFest event.

The family-friendly food festival took place in August and welcomed the entire community out for delicious ribs, live music, endless entertainment and much more.

While the event is always free to attend, proceeds from the beverage garden, event sponsorships and event raffle tickets added up for a grand total of $78,000.

“The funds raised during Sunrise Rotary RibFest allow us to help local organizations and together we work to make Kelowna a stronger community,” said Rotary Club president Susan McIntyre.

Beneficiaries for the 2019 event included JoeAnna’s House and the KGH Foundation, which received a $10,000 donation, bringing the grand total of funds donated to the cause over the years by RibFest to $40,000.

Now that the home away from home has opened its doors and the event has reached its financial commitment, Kelowna Sunrise Rotarians took the rest of the funds raised and made some additional donations to other causes within the city.

Pathways Abilities Society received a $10,000 donation and Hope for the Nation’s Food for Thought program received $9,025.

Another $35,485 was distributed to five other organizations through the Rotary’s donation committee, including the Kelowna Women’s Shelter, Meals on Wheels and Now Canada.

Going ahead into 2020, McIntyre and the Rotarians are already planning to raise even more than last year’s record-breaking amount, to continue making a difference within Kelowna.
