'Taco-mania' grips Dilworth Shopping Centre

There was a traffic jam at the Dilworth Shopping Centre today as the TacoTime served up its final Taco Tuesday.

One driver told KelownaNow he had waited over an hour and he had yet to place his order.

The lineup snaked through two rows of parking spaces.

TacoTime launched a social media campaign in July of 2019 over the landowners plans to replace the popular restaurant with a Starbucks.

The owner of the restaurant, Ray Heathcote vowed he would not close.

The Starbucks plans were approved the month previous by City Council.

At the time, it would have been the 15th Starbucks in Kelowna, but since then, some have closed.

But this week, the owner of the TacoTime admitted defeat saying that today, Taco Tuesday, would be the final day for the franchise after 40 years.

Customers reacted with disappointment.
