UPDATE: Rescue dog hit twice while on the run in Kelowna found
(UPDATE: Sept. 17 at 5:10 am): Rex has now been found, according to posts on social media.
Daisy's Pawprints Animal Rescue, which helped with the search, posted thanks to "those on the ground that put in many hours."
(Original story: Sept. 16 at 2:25 pm): Two-and-a-half-year-old Rex was with a dog sitter Sunday when he made a break for it.
The boisterous lab cross has since been spotted numerous times and it hasn't all been good.
While roaming between the downtown and the waterfront, it seems the big dog has been struck in traffic at least twice.
"Supposedly people have seen him being hit more than once," said owner Bronwen Hulme.
"The first time, apparently, was a van on the 97 and then since then he has been hit by a car outside Prospera I believe."
We caught up to Hulme while she was putting up posters in the area of Manhattan Drive.
"He went sprinting and he's so scared of everyone and everything," Hulme explained.
That's why she is recommending people don't try to call him or attempt to catch him.
"He's a rescue puppy. He was abused by his last people," Hulme explained.
"I just don't want anyone to try and chase him or call his name because he's just going to get more freaked out."
While the signs were going up in the Manhattan Drive area, Rex could be anywhere.
"He has been seen, in theory, around here," she said, "and then also toward Safeway and Leon, that area."
If there is anything Rex is good at, it's covering lots of ground.
"So he has the speed and stamina, sadly," said Hulme. "He would be very hard for even me to catch."
Rex is all black with a white patch on his chest and he was wearing a blue Ruffwear harness when he ran off.
