Glenmore resident Barry Badenhorst is rattled, but relieved.
When his apartment building at the corner of John Hindle Drive was evacuated he could see nearby homes ablaze.
But he's been assured by the RCMP that his building has been spared.
"He said, no I believe the apartment buildings are okay," said Badenhorst.
It was a great relief considering what he witnessed when his building was being evacuated around midday Friday.
"Because I saw the houses opposite, on the other side of the road burning fiercely."
Badenhurst was also encouraged to hear the mobile home park across from his apartment building may have also been saved.
"I said, "what about the trailer park?', he said 'As far as I know, it survived'."
Badenhurst's building is kitty-corner to the candling trees captured in a piece of video gathered by KelownaNow while the evacuation was underway Friday.
"I saw that myself," he said. "That's where the houses were right there and they were just burning fiercely when I was evacuated."
He has nothing but praise for fire crews.
"They've done an incredible job," said Badenhurst. "They really have."
Then he gestured to the police.
"And people like this keeping us safe is truly fantastic."
Like many Okanagan residents right now, Badenhurst is staying in a hotel until it's safe to go home.
