VIDEO: Should an offensive T-shirt get you tossed from a restaurant or bar?

A popular Kelowna restaurant is being called out over its response to a complaint about an offensive T-shirt.
Matt Canzer was enjoying the patio at Craft Beer Market in Kelowna when he and his friends were confronted with it.
"We saw a guy there that had the 'R' word on it pretty prominently," he said. "It was repeated twice."
Canzer does some work with people with intellectual disabilities, so he found it particularly troubling.
"It was a stupid, not funny joke that was on his T-shirt, I figured that the staff maybe didn't notice."
Here's what the T-shirt reportedly said:
"NOT RETARDED, JUST RETARDED ADJACENT"
He raised his concern with staff and waited to see what they would do about it.
"They walked over and asked the guy to turn around so that his t-shirt was only partially visible to the rest of the restaurant."
Canzer said he was surprised and disappointed the manager didn't refuse service to the man.
"He said, as long as they're not gang colours then, no, they don't have a policy on that."
He said people need to be reminded about how words can be hurtful.
"They do cause real harm to people with intellectual disabilities and the community and their friends and family," said Canzer.
And he argues that it's not too much for staff to respond.
"I don't think it's that difficult," he said.
"Would they have kicked someone out if the shirt had the 'F' word on it, or the 'N' word on it?" he asked.
"I don't think they would have a hard time saying 'hey, this is just not the environment we're trying to create here'."
Craft has responded to the complaint in an email.
"It is our policy not to tolerate discrimination of any kind at our restaurants," reads part of their statement. "This incident has caused us to review how this policy applies to our guests and we will be ensuring that our training for our staff reflects this."
