VIDEO: Theatre sets the stage for live shows again

"It's exciting and nerve-wracking," said Randy Leslie at the Kelowna Actors Studio, with less than two weeks to go before the first opening night in about a year.

"We have the cream of the crop in 'Into the Woods', said Leslie about the cast of the first show, "So it makes it a little bit easier, but still nerve-wracking."

The theatre has stayed busy during the pandemic by continuing to offer classes for young aspiring actors.

"We had about 180 students throughout the 18 months," he explained, "so that helped keep us alive."

The theatre was able to perform for audiences limited to 50 a year ago, which proved difficult.

Under the current protocols, they can welcome people at half capacity, which is about a hundred.

And by the time the season gets into full swing, they expect to be permitted to open at full capacity again.

"The word on the street is that end of the month or the beginning of November they will open us up with the double vaccine passport," said Leslie.

"That's the goal that February we'll have full audiences again and our subscribers will be back."

Anna Jacyszyn, is preparing to be in the cast for a few of the upcoming presentations this season, and she can't wait.

"First of all, I get to sing, first of all, I get to be part of a family again," she explained. "For anyone who's ever worked in theatre and knows Randy and the team, you know that it's such a great camaraderie."

Into the Woods opens October 20th and runs until the 30th.

Dinner will be served for those who would like the full dinner theatre experience and there is also a show-only option.

With the theatre at half-capacity tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
